India and Switzerland – 60 Years of friendship!

On 14th August 1948, India and Switzerland signed a friendship treaty. Switzerland was the first country to sign a treaty of this kind with India and one of the first to recognise young and independent India officially. Both countries celebrated the 60th anniversary of their friendship last year. The statue of Mahatma Gandhi, erected in November 2007, served as a gift from the Indian government to the city of Geneva, symbolising the long-standing and excellent relations between India and Switzerland. In continuation with the celebration of friendship, the year 2009 has been nominated as the year of Science and Education of Switzerland in India.

The year 2008 was a year of celebrations for India and Switzerland - a year that commemorated 60 years of the signing of the Indo-Swiss Friendship Treaty and of friendship that dates back to much earlier than that.

It is the objective of strengthening present relationships, seeking new partnerships and presenting the diverse image of Switzerland to the decision makers of today and tomorrow, that served as a basis of the jubilee celebrations, apart from celebrating 60 years of signing of the treaty. Various projects, in diverse fields, had been planned, in India and Switzerland, across the year 2008.

The Embassy of Switzerland opens new Visa Application Center in New Delhi

The Embassy of Switzerland is pleased to announce that it has commissioned VFS Global Services Private Limited to operate the new Visa Application Center in New Delhi, with effect from November 15th, 2007. With the opening of this new Visa Application Center, the Embassy wishes to improve the levels of service to the Visa applicants.
